Oil cleansing.. myth or legend?

We've all the heard the myths about cleansing, that oil-free products are the only ones to keep your skin clear and healthy. Well.. thats exactly what it is, a myth!


Research has in fact shown a number of great benefits of using oils on your skin, with many now turning to oil cleansing to gently remove makeup, keep breakouts at bay and soothe sensitive skin. Oils actually protect the natural layer of your skin and all the good bacteria that live there.


How does it work?

Oil attracts oil! So, smothering your face in it does what exactly?

・Lifts away the excess sebum (oil) built up by glands on your skin

・Clears clogged pores, the blackheads and whiteheads

・Removes any dead skin cells and makeup


Which oils to use?

  • olive oil

  • castor oil

  • grapeseed oil

  • avocado oil

  • sunflower oil

  • jojoba oil

The basic cleanse:

  1. Use a small palm full (roughly 2 teaspoons) and apply to dry face using fingers to massage the oil into skin for 1-2 minutes. This helps to lift away dirt and melt away makeup and impurities.

  2. Use a warm damp facecloth to gently wipe away the oil, do not scrub.

  3. Rinse with warm water (if you wish), tone and moisturise.
